Photography Deadline and Snapshot Presentation

Hello
Hope everyone is staying warm in this Arctic blast. Due to the College closure last week one weeks extension is required and our snapshot presentations will now take place on the 14th December.   You will not be required to attend the Art Studio session on the 7th Dec, however, if you wish to contact me for any reason use Groupwise email.
Please remember:
The easiest way to show your preference in terms of styles of photography is to create a moodboard/inspiration sheet.  As requested, bring your photography likes and/or dislikes for discussion .
Please also meet with your designer/photographer and organise your production schedule for your photoshoot with a view to confirming dates that suit you both .

The snapshot presentation will take place in the Art Studio and will entail you and your designer/photographer presenting (a) your logo design (T shirt template) (b) your final illustrated portrait and (c) your results from your photoshoot. All of the elements (a) (b) & (c) will be supported by moodboards, research and development evidence. The design process and audit trail of you project so far... should be clarified within the snapshot presentation.

If it were me I would meet with my designer and run through the presentation. Good preparation will be apparent and enable good marks to be scored. Good Luck.

Next stage is pulling the poster designs together  and your short promo video. Briefing to follow.
Remember to record your video blog (use Photobooth or imovie) and collate all video blogs for submission at the end of the module.

Professional Photographer Meeting.

Well done everyone who took part in the presentations of Case Studies during our last two Tuesday classes.  I am sure that everyone who participated appreciates the excellent work created by those who presented. Once again many thanks. Thanks also to everyone who has submitted their Case Study. Feedback to follow.

As discussed this week you are invited to the Art Studio (at Noon) to meet with Kenny Malcolm who is our professional photography tutor. Kenny has offered a session with you to discuss how you can get the best out of your photo-shoots. This is the next step in creating your Portfolio with your designer/photographer.

Meeting after the October Break

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/electricproms/2010/

You have met with your designer and discussed in detail progress of your new logo design. The final agreed logo design should now be placed within the template of a T shirt design. Discuss with you designer.

It is anticipated that you will meet with your designer on Tuesday 26th to continue the dialogue and to begin the process of creating the illustration portrait. It is vital that you are involved in the process and direct your designer towards a portrait that you will use within your promotional portfolio. This will probably involve a photograph being taken on the 26th or you are invited to bring in any existing images that might be used as reference.

Once you have met with your designer (40 mins) please join me in the Art studio again and we will continue the production of you case study research and powerpoint presentation.
Look forward to seeing you . Regards Helen.

Daryl Info for you....ALEX STEINWEISS created the first illustrated cover for an album of 78 rpm records. Before that, the albums were sold in plain brown sleeves, with a cardboard outer jacket and just the name of the artist stamped on the front. They looked like tombstones, Alex Steinweiss said. See his very first cover, a Rodgers & Hart collection from 1939 on the website above.

Week before the October Break

Story so far…We looked at styles of illustration and photography and discussed the forthcoming artwork and photoshoot that you will take part in art directing. You had a go at creating a short six frame storyboard using the theme of your 'journey to college' This was a good exercise and I would suggest you continue to consider your short promo film content and look to use this footage within your digital project.

The photoshoot will be offered soon within your production schedule and once again if you could supply your designer with visuals clarifying the 'style' of photography that you are looking for this will speed the project production along.

You were briefed on the case study for this module, which had a deadline of 26th October. After discussion an extension was offered and the new deadline is 1pm Tues 2 Nov.

Portfolio Progress- Where Art meets Music

The project is off and running and the majority of 'teams' have connected and are working very well together. You should now be aware of your designers name and contact details.

Your Project Proposal ( within the booklet you were given) should be completed and your moodboard/inspiration sheet completed and discussed fully with your designer and me (H).
The essence of your discussions with your designer should be evident within the short video blogs that you are compiling each time you meet. Remember to collate these for viewing as part of the assessment. It will become a habit to record each step of the design process as you work through this module with your designers, photographers and film makers.

The contract (inside booklet) should be signed by both parties as a mark of your agreement to work together.

Your designer will now begin creating your Logo design for this project and and will develop visuals for you to view and choose from on your return from October break. Use Photobooth (or similar) to record your progress and remember to collate all of your video blogs together and submit to Helen.

In the meantime you are expected to join me in the Art Studio (at Noon) where we will discuss details about your forthcoming portrait sitting (illustration), photography and short promo video, storyboarding and production schedule.

We will begin a case study for this module, which has a deadline of 26th October. Details on Tuesday.

Look forward to seeing you Regards H

Continuing the BA Portfolio Project

Well done everyone. Majority of the teams managed to create a design brief clarifying the collaborative project between BA Musicians and Designers/Photographers. As a musician you should now be closer to pinning down your project proposal and submitting either as an email (helen.roger@uhi.ac.uk) or as a hard copy to me. This information along with your visual moodboard will enable the designer to work for the following 2 weeks on visuals for your own logo design. Please ensure the project proposal (inside your module booklet) and completed design brief get to me before Tuesday.

It is important that you also take responsibility for filming your video blog (you will be assessed on these) with your designer and collect them on either an external hard drive or place them (with your designers help) on the ADM server.

Your logo design will be the first element of the promo materials that your designer will complete. They will be working on the designs this week and next and will present to you after the OCT break. Keep in touch with your designer ...be part of the process. The artwork, photography and film will form part of your final degree submission. Enjoy!

This week at noon you will be invited to meet with you designer briefly... record progress so far (use Photobooth or iMovie)... Say who you are, what you have been asked to do, how you (and your designer) have gone about it and finally and importantly ...What you intend to do next?
(relating to this module)

You are expected to attend (Art Studio) for the next two weeks and we will discuss the porfolio (press pack) and begin a Case Study relating to the module. Regards Helen.

BA 3 Music Performance Portfolio

We have had our first initial meeting of Designers and Musicians. A brief chat in order to get contact details and to begin the process of forming a clear design brief for both parties. An important element of the process involves the creation of a moodboard/inspiration sheet showing visuals of preferred styles of photography, illustrations and typefaces. You could include Cd and Album covers and artwork that you like from past and present artists. Really important that you get used to recording your meetings preferably using Photobooth software on the Mac. Simply record who you are, what you have been asked to do.how you have gone about it and importantly what you intend to do next.

Tuesday 21st at Noon Art Studio. Please bring your completed moodboard/inspiration sheet. The more visual information you can give to your designer the better.
Those who were not introduced last week to their designers will find that this happens this week. Kind Regards H
